The Story of Story Quilts

Recycled Blankets and story telling

Story telling, drawing and collaborating

Jane Frost was originator and designer of Story Quilt projects in 2000. There are currently 15 Story Quilts completed.

Jane coordinates and guides participants to successfully make unique designs for their communities, for celebration days and performances.

Quilts are designed as a resource for story telling and small scale performances, to learn about people and places, communities, countries and beliefs.

Story Quilts are made from dyed, recycled wool blankets yarns and sometimes hand made felts.

All members of the community are invited to contribute

Story Quilts are a non-threatening way to help with imagining or envisioning a different point of view and can be a valuable part of an intercession process, either in the making or when completed.

Sharing stories and skills is a way of understanding and expressing another persons’ experience as well as finding out about the non-human residents, environments, or situations in the world.

Story Quilts are owned and used by libraries, schools, community centres, churches, clinics and youth organisations. They have potential to be used as a resource for intimate performance spaces, therapy sessions or prayer times. Completion of a Story Quilt is always an opportunity for a celebration event with the whole community, it provides time to demonstrate story telling techniques and exhibit artworks made at the start of the project.
